It's not just hot---it is something more than many dogs have had to cope with.
My dog group have been very active making suggestions as what they are finding to help keep their dogs cool in this heatwave
I asked my dog group -which you are very welcome to join how they were getting on over the heatwave and how they were keeping their dogs cool.
They left lots of comments and they combine to form a hot weather package for dogs in the heat.
Putting covers on the OUTSIDE of windows-reflective materials ar every efficient but anything will do,
Covering the outside of windows is very effective.
Paddling pools for dogs the hard plastic ones are best as the dogs can’t tear them with their claws
Very early walks in the shade
Wet bandanas are very efficient if you can cool a dogs neck (or our own) it makes a real difference. Any old bit of material that will fit loosely around your dogs neck will do, it doesn’t have to be anything fancy
“Lollibowls”—I love this idea a selection of cold water, ice cubes, carrots, applaes and berries in a cold bowl
This reel is great if you have Facebook -it was sent by a friend of mine – its a reel of her dogs playing with floating bowls and toys
Frozen peanut butter -form into balls and freeze-hide in towels -add to a lickimat, or loo roll tubes
Frozen beef broth is something a lot of people mentioned
Wet towels and leave for your dog to lie on. Don’t bother with cool mats especially if plastic -dogs rarely use them
If you don’t have a paddling pool you can fill a small bucket / trug with water and throw some bits of food that float in it and do some treat bobbing with your dogs (sausages float!) Don’t make it too deep at first
Keep cool everyone
