HOUND SCHOOL

Hound School has two main aims these are;

To promote understanding between people and their dogs.

To teach dogs using positive and kind methods only. We specialise in teaching dogs through games and activities.

Our services include;

Pet Dog Trainers Associate Member
  • Dog behaviour consultations; these are conducted in your home and are valuable to help you develop a remedy for behaviours such as "separation anxiety" ( dogs that bark, howl, chew and become distressed when left alone); destructive behaviour; excessive barking and jumping up at people both outside and with visitors to your home; attention seeking; excessive mouthing.
  • 1-1 training; these sessions can be booked at times that suit you, including some weekend and evening appointments. The great thing about 1-1 training is that we can look at any problems that are stopping you enjoying being with your dog. The kind of behaviours that respond well to 1-1 training include pulling on lead, not coming back when called, jumping up, escaping through the front door, over excitability, your dog not "listening" to you.
  • Social/training walks; social walks can help build confidence in dogs that are nervous around other dogs and people, and they are especially beneficial for dogs who have had a bad experience in the past. This may mean that your dog barks, lunges and pulls when he sees other dogs and cannot tolerate being near dogs he does not know. They can also help improve your handling skills while walking.
  • Canine Bowen Therapy; Bowen can help when your dog is stiff and in pain and involves no manipulation or drugs. Please see the canine Bowen pages for more information.
  • dog activity game
  • Dog Activities; dogs love doing activities; these include nosework, fun agility and novel ideas for training, both indoors and out depending on the time of year.
  • Training clinics and workshops; these aim to provide help for very specific problems in a class environment. The maximum number of dogs in a class very rarely exceeds 4. Workshops and classes cover recall, pulling on lead, socialisation, basic obedience and predatory behaviour. There is a list of forthcoming workshops and classes on the page of the same name.
  • Dog Talks; regular talks on dog topics and training issues given to groups, clubs and rescue organisations.
