CANINE BOWEN THERAPY

canine bowen technique

What is Canine Bowen helpful for?

Canine Bowen is a holistic therapy which means that therapists treat the dog as a whole, rather than focusing solely on a particular problem area or condition. For instance a dog with a limp will transfer weight onto his/her good leg which will cause misalignment in the body, and can store up problems for the future. (Up to 75% 0f dogs that have cruciate ligament surgery on one leg, end up having the same procedure performed on the other leg due to this very problem).

Keeping this in mind this means that Canine Bowen is a very versatile therapy and can be of benefit with many types of problem including:

  • Acute and chronic injuries; sprains, muscular strains, caused by accidents and over exertion.

  • Degenerative conditions: among these arthritis, spinal problems, and joint pain caused by chronic illness. Canine Bowen is useful in for these problems as it can relieve pain, and boost circulation.

  • Anxieties, phobias and fears: e.g. fireworks, thunder, car travel etc.

  • Behavioural problems: including separation anxiety, over reactive or nervous dogs.

  • Helps induce relaxation: which can be very useful for dogs who are experiencing stress such as rescue dogs, or dogs who have suffered a loss of confidence after a traumatic incident (including bereavement)

  • Digestive problems: colitis, food intolerances, recurrent digestive imbalances.

  • Pre and post operative care: beneficial for boosting circulation to injured areas and creating a sense of wellbeing thereby helping to reduce recovery time after surgery.

  • Prevention and maintenance: to promote good health

  • Active, competition and working dogs: helping to reduce risk of injury, and boosting energy.
